Stylistic Analysis *

- Introduction to textual analysis: stylistics and pragmatics

- Foregrounding, deviation and parallelism

- Poetry and sound, meaning and effect: alliteration, assonance, rhyme, sound symbolism, phonaesthemes

- Drama and conversation analysis: floor, turn-taking, topic control, transition relevance place (TRP), adjacency pairs

- Austin and Searle’s theory of speech acts: direct and

indirect speech acts, constatives and performatives,

felicity conditions, locutionary act, illocutionary force

and perlocutionary effect

- Brown and Levinson’s theory of politeness: positive and negative face, face-saving and face-threatening acts, positive and negative politeness strategies

- Assumptions, presuppositions and inferences

- Fictional prose and point of view

- Speech and thought presentation: from the narrator’s representation of discourse to free direct discourse



* La dott.ssa Virdis, che insegnerà al Gruppo A, e il dott. Buckledee adotteranno un unico programma.



Valutazione: gli studenti di tutti e tre i corsi di laurea dovranno avere conoscenza teorica dei concetti suindicati, mentre quelli di Lcu e di Lmed dovranno anche dimostrare di saper applicare gli stessi concetti nell’analisi stilistica di testi brevi.
